Learn All About Bonsai Trees with our Guide
Bonsai Trees have been an extremely popular choice for many years and are believed to bring good luck when given as a gift. The Bonsai Tree is an artificially dwarfed tree created through cutting off the bottom leaves and branches until the tree puts its energy into making more foliage at the top thus creating the Bonsai shape that resembles a fully grown miniature tree.
Light |
Bonsai Trees require bright light to thrive, so ensure they get at least 5 hours of indirect sunlight a day. Direct light will dry the leaves out quickly so ensure its not kept on a windowsill. |
Watering |
Water your Bonsai Tree 1-2 times a week. Keep the soil moist but don’t allow it to get soggy. |
Humidity |
You can mist your Bonsai Tree a few times a week to boost humidity. |
Temperature |
20-30c is the ideal temperature for the Bonsai Tree. |
Fertilizer |
Feed your Bonsai Tree every two weeks during the growing season (March-September) and every 4 weeks during the Winter. |
Toxicity |
As there are many varieties of Bonsai Tree the toxicity will depend on which type of tree it is. |
Additional Care Information |
It is best to place your Bonsai Tree somewhere away from a source of drafts. Bonsai Trees can lose their leaves in Winter however grow new leaves in Spring. |
Troubleshooting |
Yellowing leaves that are dropping off is a sign of overwatering. You cannot save the leaves so pick off any yellowing ones to encourage new growth and allow the soil to dry out for a few days before watering again. Dry crisp leaves are a sign of scorching from the sun or from underwatering. Water more often and maintain a strict watering routine. On the other hand, if you believe neither is the issue, your Bonsai Tree may be receiving too much light and may need moved further back. |
