Learn All About Succulents with our Guide
Succulents are a popular house plant choice due to their easy care and little watering requirements. They have fleshy leaves which is used for water storage and there are many different types. They originate in dry dessert conditions meaning they thrive in dry air. The word Succulent comes from Sucus, Latin for juice or sap as this is what is contained within the leaves. Another great quality of the Succulent is that they are relatively pest resistant.
Light |
Succulents need bright indirect light to thrive however there are some varieties which tolerate lower light levels. |
Watering |
Aim to water your Succulents once every 2-3 weeks in the growing season (March-September) and once a month in Winter. Water from the bottom to avoid getting your succulent wet on top. |
Humidity |
Succulents do not enjoy humidity therefore it is important not to mist them, as they do not like water sitting on their leaves. |
Temperature |
Succulents like temperatures between 12-26c. |
Fertilizer |
Feed your Succulents once in Spring and once in Summer with a specialist succulent/cactus feed. |
Toxicity |
The majority of Succulents are non-toxic however there are some varieties which are. We recommend to keep all varieties out of the reach of pets and small children. |
Additional Care Information |
It is best to use a well-draining cactus/succulent soil as regular potting soil will hold too much moisture and can lead to root rot. |
Troubleshooting |
Shrivelled crispy leaves can indicate underwatering. Depending on the time of year water more often in line with the watering advice above. If your succulents leaves are stretching and becoming leggy is a sign there is not enough light. Simply move your Succulent to a brighter area. If your Succulent has mushy transparent leaves, this is due to overwatering. Remove the affect parts and reduce watering frequency. |
